Q. What is LinkChoir?
A. LinkChoir provides a perfect solution to the most significant shortcoming of traditional thesaurus construction systems - the lack of integration of thesaurus terms with information sources that need to be indexed by the thesaurus. It is fairly common for corporations to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars building a thesaurus, but be unable to use it effectively because of the difficulty in integrating the thesaurus with external information sources. LinkChoir is the crucial tool that allows other applications to globally access and use thesaurus descriptors to index the database records in these applications, providing the only answer to this persistent problem.
Q. What is required to run LinkChoir?
A. LinkChoir comes in two versions. One is Web-based, allowing integration with any Web-based applications, and the other is based on a Windows API, enabling integration with any Windows client. The Web-based version requires only a Web server and a browser. The Windows API version works with any Windows client that supports a Windows API. Since both versions work with  XML, they don't even require a DBMS to store your thesaurus data, if you choose XML as your data storage format.

Q. Does LinkChoir support multiple thesauri?
A. Yes, you can incorporate as many thesauri as you desire into LinkChoir for viewing and indexing.

Q. Can I use LinkChoir without other WebChoir products?
A. Yes, but you will need ConceptChoir or TranChoir to produce, from the interested thesauri, XML documents that are designed and optimized for ViewChoir, LinkChoir, and SeekChoir..
Q. If I update my thesaurus using ConceptChoir, how difficult is it to post my new, revised thesaurus via LinkChoir?
A.
You just need to use ConceptChoir or TranChoir to generate XML documents again and replace the previous version.

Q. Do users have to install LinkChoir on their local machines in order to use it?
A.
No, users just need to have an Internet browser such as IE or Netscape on their local machines, since LinkChoir is completely Web-based.

Q. What programming is required to use LinkChoir?
A. Web-based LinkChoir requires only Web Service API or JavaScript for integration and manipulation of the returned values from thesauri. Click here to see the required and sample JavaScripts for integrating LinkChoir. The Windows API LinkChoir works with most programming languages that support a Windows API including VB, C++, and Delphi.
Q. What types of databases can I link to?
A. LinkChoir supports most relational databases that support JDBC or ODBC, including Oracle, DB2, SQL-Server, and MySQL.
Q. If I have published a new version of my thesaurus, can LinkChoir automatically and globally update my users' records according to all the changes made in my new thesaurus?
A. Yes, LinkChoir updates, automatically and globally, descriptors that have been used in indexing.
